*This is an estimate based on the 2026 threshold limits. Final decision rests with SASSA.
Unlike the SRD grant, you CAN have some income and still qualify. But if you earn above the "Threshold Line," SASSA will decline you.

How the Payment Cycle Works
SASSA separates payment dates to protect the elderly from crowded malls. The money is released in this strict order every month:
Note: If the 2nd falls on a weekend, payments start the following Monday.
What to Bring to the Office
Unlike SRD, these grants usually require a physical visit to a SASSA Local Office. Do not go empty-handed.
Standard Documents
- 13-Digit Barcoded ID (Smart Card preferred).
- Proof of Residence (Utility bill or Chief's letter).
- Proof of Income (3 months bank statements).
- For Kids: Birth Certificate (Unabridged).
The "Medical" Requirement
For Disability Grants, you cannot just apply. You must first book a "Medical Assessment" with a state doctor approved by SASSA. The doctor sends the report directly to SASSA; you do not carry it.
Need the SRD R370 Grant Instead?
If you do not qualify for these grants because you are unemployed but young and healthy, you likely qualify for SRD.
